Creative solutions to truly sustainable beauty

I returned to study in my late 40s to learn about organic formulations and sustainability in the beauty industry. Creating sustainable skincare presented a technical challenge due to the presence of petro-chemicals used in the production of many natural ingredients.

I was strongly aware that women in mid-life need skincare that targets dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, dark shadows and sunspots, all of which occur as our oestrogen levels undergo a significant reduction during our middle years. At this time in our lives we need more than moisturisers, we need active ingredients that are backed with clinical evidence that truly work.

The next piece of the puzzle was to invest in packaging that had the least impact on our environment. Australians contribute over 10,000 tones of cosmetic packaging to landfill each year. This is largely because most of our cosmetic packaging can not be recycled by our council curb side collections. Seadragon Organic skincare comes in packaging that is both readily recyclable by our Australian councils, and when in landfill will fully biodegrade within 6 to 10 years. This offers true piece of mind for my customers because beauty shouldn’t cost the earth.
